MARIO’S “5DE-VLOG”
Hello and welcome to my 5-Minute Digital Economy Vlog, the 5DE-VLOG. My name is Mario Mariniello; I am an economist and expert on the digital economy.
In the vlog, I use a maximum of 5 minutes to address three questions on a topic related to the digital economy. The themes largely overlap with those covered in my book "Digital Economic Policy" (OUP, 2022).
I explain the economics behind digital policies. The content is accessible and thought for an audience with no particular educational background.
In the first edition, I explain the European Commission’s proposal for a Directive to Improving Working Conditions in Platform Work – the Platform Work Directive.
Access to vlogs is free, and you are welcome to share them in your network.
Vlogs will be published regularly in the coming months. In the next editions, I am planning to cover, for example:
- Algorithmic management and the use of artificial intelligence in the workplace;
- Digital economic policy in times of war
- The Artificial Intelligence Act
- The Digital Services Act
- The Digital Markets Act
But I welcome very much your suggestions. If you have a topic you would like me to cover or some questions you would like me to address, please send me an email or use the contact form below.
Looking forward to hearing from you and I hope you will enjoy it.
Mario

DIGITAL ECONOMIC POLICY
The Economics of Digital Markets from a European Union PerspectiveDigital Economic Policy is a first-of-its-kind textbook covering all policy dimensions of the digital economy at the European level. It is a journey during which students may learn about telecom markets, the data economy, the digitization of the public sector, cybersecurity, the platform economy, liability for online content, e-commerce, the sharing economy, the impact of technology on labour markets, digital inequality, disinformation, and artificial intelligence.
The book's primary goal is to prepare students to give informed and economically sound advice to an EU policymaker for digital affairs.
